The MurphyVerse is a place of peculiar humor that hopefully makes you think. The name is at once self-descriptive of the space between my ears, and a descriptive of my fictional scriptural style ramblings with scriptural sounding "Books": Murphy Verses. Although beginning with written material, I hope to expand to video presentations.

The Story of the Grass People

About 1500 years ago, there was a tribe of people who existed on a plain that was covered with grass that was unusually strong. Although there were neighboring tribes, each with their own king nearby, the people of the grass pretty well kept to themselves. And, although there were wooded and hilly lands where these other tribes lived, the grass people seldom visited the other lands. They foraged in the grass, and even built their houses out of the grass. The king of the grass people became fascinated with his power and built a throne from which to rule. Eventually, so prideful he became, he sent a spy to see the throne of the king of a neighboring tribe. The spy reported back that the king next door had a gawdy wooden and jewel encrusted throne from which to wield his power. Well, said the grass king, I must have that throne, and he sent out a war party to conquer the neighboring tribe and bring back the king's throne for him to have. His warriors won and carried back the throne to the grass king who, instead of sitting on it, built a second floor to his grass castle and would stare at it for hours, proud of his possession. He decided he should war on other tribes and capture the kings' thrones so that he could possess and admire them along with his power. Each time he added a throne, he would put it in his second floor throne room. He captured many thrones and had a room positively FULL of them.

One night, as he was sleeping in his royal chamber, the second floor, no longer able to support the weight of all of the thrones, collapsed. The king was found dead under the thrones the following morning. It was a sad, sad day.

From that day, it was written: People who live in grass houses shouldn't stow thrones.

Sorry.

Murphy's Quote of the Day

"I am standing on the Mountain of Right, and you are standing in the Valley of Wrong." Deputy Frank Sloup, Pinal County, AZ

Why do I like this one? I have a primary residence on the Mountain of Right.

Who Caught It?

Of you who read my previous post, how many of you caught the quote I stole from a movie? Can you name the movie and who said it?

A Self Indulgent Update on Me.

So, I have completed 4 of 6 chemo infusions, and I have to say that the last one seems to have caused almost no side effects that cannot be otherwise explained by the disease itself. I remain exhausted all the time, and I go home at the end of the workday positively depleted. That, however, seems to be due to the anemia that somewhat existed before chemo started but certainly seems to have been exacerbated by it.

I presently sit at a 40% disability rating with the Veterans Administration with some big stuff pending. I am awaiting a decision on my hearing loss and the PTSD/Depression. The cancer aspect takes a step forward with an exam by a VA contracted provider who will provide a recommendation as to the service connection to the cancer. If it goes my way and I get to 100%, then as soon as the first check hits the bank, I’m retired. While this exam is scheduled for Monday, I have no assurance that a VA determination will be quickly forthcoming. Patience is the key.

My spirits ...
