The MurphyVerse is a place of peculiar humor that hopefully makes you think. The name is at once self-descriptive of the space between my ears, and a descriptive of my fictional scriptural style ramblings with scriptural sounding "Books": Murphy Verses. Although beginning with written material, I hope to expand to video presentations.

Are Innocence and the Future Lost at Once?

Bouts of melancholia are unfortunate, but I have been thinking about what life will shape up to be for my grandchildren. The grandson is nearly inseparable from his screens, primarily his iPad. The granddaughter is not there yet, but she watches bro bro closely and will soon be lost in her virtual world.

When I was a child, and homework was done, children were sent outside to play. We played army, chase, hide and seek and a host of other games driven by only our imaginations. I was fortunate to have lived next to a large park until 4th grade when we moved to another neighborhood. The location changed, but the rules stayed the same: Be home when the street lights come on. If I were required home before that, my mother would whistle. Although we lived in Baton Rouge, my mother had an ability to whistle so loudly that children in New Orleans ran home to see what their mothers wanted.

As Zuckerberg begins his mission to put the world into the matrix, I wonder where social interaction will go. We are headed for a world where human interaction will disappear. Instead, we will peer into goggles or contact lenses and speak to imaginary people who will respond exactly how they are programmed to respond. With humans already captivated by the echo chambers created by FaceBook and Twitter, where likeminded people shout each other down in agreement, can there be any doubt it will happen in the masturbatory world of Meta? Cancellation will then be complete. No need for that anymore, just exclude them from your metaverse.

Who will then produce anything? What will my grandchildren be trained and educated to do?

Welcome to I, Robot. The robots will be required to be the producers while the humans disappear into their imaginary worlds. Then what? The artificially intelligent robots won’t have to fight to take over. Our grandchildren are being programmed to unconditionally surrender.

Recall what I have quoted before from Alan Parsons: “I Robot. The story of the rise of the machine and decline of man, which paradoxically coincides with the discovery of the wheel. And a warning, that man’s brief dominance of this planet will soon end because he tried to create robot in his own image.”

Sleep well.

Murphy's Quote of the Day

"I am standing on the Mountain of Right, and you are standing in the Valley of Wrong." Deputy Frank Sloup, Pinal County, AZ

Why do I like this one? I have a primary residence on the Mountain of Right.

Who Caught It?

Of you who read my previous post, how many of you caught the quote I stole from a movie? Can you name the movie and who said it?

A Self Indulgent Update on Me.

So, I have completed 4 of 6 chemo infusions, and I have to say that the last one seems to have caused almost no side effects that cannot be otherwise explained by the disease itself. I remain exhausted all the time, and I go home at the end of the workday positively depleted. That, however, seems to be due to the anemia that somewhat existed before chemo started but certainly seems to have been exacerbated by it.

I presently sit at a 40% disability rating with the Veterans Administration with some big stuff pending. I am awaiting a decision on my hearing loss and the PTSD/Depression. The cancer aspect takes a step forward with an exam by a VA contracted provider who will provide a recommendation as to the service connection to the cancer. If it goes my way and I get to 100%, then as soon as the first check hits the bank, I’m retired. While this exam is scheduled for Monday, I have no assurance that a VA determination will be quickly forthcoming. Patience is the key.

My spirits ...
